“Ammata Siri! I think I just got MARRIED!”: The Wedding Pics Of Mr. Lazy & Mrs. Smart

The exact moment I saw her in her bridal outfit for the 1st time

There’s only one girl in the world who can make me smile like this…

And guess what, folks???

But before I show you any photos of the whole shindig, first, here’s an open letter to each of you.

26th November, 2015

My dear Lazy But Smart Tribesters,

How’s it going?

I’ve known some of you for over 2 years and – at the rate of the daily new subscriptions I’m getting now – I probably know some of you for just over 2 hours.

Either way, over all these years, months, and sometimes even hours, you’ve been so kind to reach out to me and tell me about your family, your work, and your health. You’ve sent me photos of your birthday parties, your weddings, and your kids (including those cute munchkins you’ve adopted from Sri Lanka).

Basically, you’ve treated me like a dear friend, rather than “some guy on the internet”.

And so, I felt like I too should share the news with you that very recently, I took on the most important role of my life so far.

… The role of being a HUSBAND.

So now you know why I’ve been quiet these past months. Not easy putting together a celebration of 5 events, spanning across 3 days, for *only* 300 people in India, in a hotel very close to the Taj Mahal, right?

The few of you who knew what I was up to asked me to share some photos of the event, and not being one to disappoint (and one who’s never been too modest to show off) here they are. I’ve grouped them by event.

Seriously though, I feel “blessed” to have our little community with whom I can share such a special moment of my life.

Once the whole “settling in” into our new home happens, I promise to get back to my old rhythm of putting out Sinhala learning content that I absolutely LOVE creating.

Until then, take good care of yourselves while I get used to this whole “marriage” thingy.

Sincerely, your favorite Sinhala blogger,

Son, Brother, Cocky Douchebag, and most recently, Husband :)

A Day Before It Started…

Day 1 – Cocktail Night

Day 2 – Mehndi (Henna Hand Designing) Ceremony

Day 2 – Sangeet (Music) Night

Day 3 – Baraat (Groom’s Arrival) & Wedding Ceremony

Day 3 – Reception

I feel like I’ve forgotten something…

Oh yeah!!!

I don’t think I put up a proper photo of the wife, did I? (Sorry, I’m still getting used to the fact that I have another half now) :)

So ladies & gentlemen, I’m thrilled to introduce to you the amazingly kind, extremely loving, and breathtakingly beautiful, Mrs. Jayasinha.

Mr. Lazy and Mrs. Smart

I look forward to getting back in touch with you with a brand new blog post in a couple of days.

      • Aruni November 28, 2015 at 18:25 #

Hahahaha! Silly monkey – you two are youngsters yet! Just wait until you start sentences with “Back in my day…”

Thanks Katie, probably not doing a homecoming… I’m totally exhausted by all the greeting, hand shaking, smiling, and pretending to recognize people. So at least not anytime soon.

Congratulations to both of you. What a wonderful ceremony. You both look beautiful and very happy.

Not totally unexpected, but wonderful news! You, Mr. Lazy, are a great letter writer, and it is exciting to feel included in your now quite extensive tribe. Thank you for the ‘Bollywoodesque’ photos.

By the way, you did a nice job keeping your wife hidden until the last ‘reveal’. Mrs. Smart is truly beautiful. You are an amazing couple.

I wish you both a long happy happy life together!

    • Dilshan Jayasinha November 27, 2015 at 07:09 #

Haha, thank you Elizabeth. Yes, the “gradual reveal” was intentional. And yeah, isn’t our Tribe growing considerably? Very happy about it.

  59. Olivier November 26, 2015 at 23:41 #

All my best wishes Dilshan! Very nice pictures! Olivier

  60. Sacha Grohé November 26, 2015 at 23:45 #

…now I pushed the submit button way to early. Well, anyway my dear Dilshan, even though I´ve never met you in person, I have been following your blog for about 1,5 years now and so somehow feel entitled to leave a written comment here, especially, if the occasion is such a happy one as a wedding. So: ALL THE BEST FOR YOU AND YOUR STUNNING WIFE!!!!

P.S. I´m really happy you decided to put her in the pics as well, cause after having seen the first 20, 30 or 40 pictures (I didn´t coun´t :o)), I started thinking: Damn, what´s wrong with this guy??!! Is he maybe one of the utmost narcissistic characters, who has ever walked the earth, or what the heck is he thinking, that he only displays his own person here on all the pics. I mean, your quite handsome, if I might say so, my friend, but: it´s a wedding not a one-man-show!

And how relieved was I, when at the end I read, that you apparently had it planned that way all along, when you wrote, you had forgotten something…

cool move, Dude! Almost had me there! ;o)

So now, my opinion of you as being a “cool and swag Sri Lankan elite Dude” is still standing. Thank you for that and : ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR FUTURE LIFE AS A HUBBIE!!!

I keep my fingers crossed for you guys, that happiness will always be your life´s closest companion.

    Warmest greetings from Germany

    • Dilshan Jayasinha November 27, 2015 at 07:14 #

Haha, one of the more entertaining comments I’ve got for this post, thank you. I have been called a narcissist before but I’m not *that* bad to put only my photos for a wedding post, haha. Thank you for the kind wishes too. Sincerely, “Cool and swag Sri Lankan elite Dude”.

      • Sacha Grohé November 27, 2015 at 22:35 #

You´re welcome, my unknown friend and Ayubowan, Cassled (which is shortform for “Cool and swag Sri Lankan elite Dude”, as you might have figured yourself ;o))!
        Thanks for appreciating my reply!
Your wedding pics really belong to the most amazing things in regard to wedding parties, which have ever crossed my eyes. So, don´t you worry, when somebody calls you a narcissist, cause with your personality, your refreshing humor, your apparent good character (how else should you have managed to convince a beauty like the one you are hnored to call your wedded wife now, to fall for you?) and last not least your personal wealth who wouldn´t become a little narcissistic?! I definitely would, if I were you. :o)

        • Dilshan Jayasinha November 30, 2015 at 07:31 #

Great, so now I have a guilt-free hall pass to be an obnoxious narcissist (as opposed to the humble modest gentle person I was before)… :) Thanks Sacha, CASSLED is very touched by your message.

  61. Tony November 27, 2015 at 00:11 #

Congratulations to you both! Wishing you a long and happy life together. Fantastic photos.

    Lang may yer lum reek!
    transated”Long may your chimney smoke”
meaning “May you live long and keep well”
or to quote Mr Spock (Star Treck) “Live long and prosper”.

    Tony & Marion

    • Dilshan Jayasinha November 27, 2015 at 07:15 #

Thank you both, very kind of you. Of course I knew the Spock quote but never heard the other one. I like it! Thank you again.

  62. Derk November 27, 2015 at 00:34 #

    Congratulations Dilshan!
The photos look amazing! Wishing you both all the best for a wonderful future together.
After you’ve recovered, perhaps a ‘wedding’ themed post is in order??? (Selfish suggestion – marrying my Sinhalese fiance in 2 months!)

    • Dilshan Jayasinha November 27, 2015 at 07:17 #

Oh wow, congrats on your engagement! Tell me, what would you like to see in this wedding post? If it’s Sinhala language related (and I find it fun), there’s no reason why I wouldn’t do it. Thanks for the wishes.

  65. LaLa November 27, 2015 at 05:30 #

congratulation for that amazing wedding for a beautiful couple!

Thanks Tracey, the Mehndi lunch was fun, especially since it was outdoors and the weather was perfect. Someone else asked me about the homecoming in another comment. Most likely not, at least not now. Still recovering from the exhaustion.

Danke Stephanie! Molto gentile! (I know that the last line is not German, but i felt like saying it anyway – I’m unpredictable like that…). But all my silly-ness aside, thank you for your wishes.

  87. Viatcheslav November 27, 2015 at 19:06 #

Didn’t your parents ask „is she even Sinhala?“ :)

Live long and be very happy together! The traditional wish at my birthplace is to have seven sons and one දියණිය, but let your wife decide :)

    • Dilshan Jayasinha November 30, 2015 at 07:28 #

Thank you Maria/Helena, very nice of you and thanks for the image too! The problem with Mrs. Smart becoming your new Sinhala teacher is that she doesn’t speak Sinhala! (at least, not yet).

    Dear Dilshan,

Congratulations to both of you. Wishing a very happy married life to the most elegant couple in the world.

I have just started learning Sinhala seriously. Your lessons are of great help. A happily married teacher would of course give us more lessons.

    • Dilshan Jayasinha December 2, 2015 at 12:59 #

Haha, your comment made me smile. I like your logic, yes a happily married guy would indeed work better. Also, thanks for the HUGE compliment, she actually brings most of the elegance to the relationship, haha. Thanks again Arumugam.

WOW!!! I sure did miss an announcement (thank you for sending me the link), no idea how I missed that.

But; Congratulations, Fabulous, Awesome. Love all the pics superb, love the ‘hidden’ Mrs Smart, had me wondering all the way through. Highly happy for you both, many blessings, much love, laughter, happiness and the sounds of tiny feet one day. For your future years.

Sure you realize you handsome devil, you have broken many single ladies hearts now, I am sure :)

Your wife looks stunning, so do you of course, but sorry wedding days the bride is centre stage.
All caught up with the event and blog, one thing comes to mind, you have not told us your beautiful brides first name. Not Mrs Smart, or Mrs Jayasinha. Would love to know.

Much love, hugs and happiness to you both.

    • Dilshan Jayasinha December 9, 2015 at 20:13 #

Thanks for the kind words, Shirley. Yes, she definitely takes center stage (not just at the wedding… everywhere we go!). So poor Dilshan needs to look his best just so people don’t confuse me for her chauffeur.. :) Thank you again for the lovely heartfelt wishes.

  108. Julie December 3, 2015 at 00:22 #

Dilshan… my congrats have II give you before yet … so now I want to tell you my enthusiasm for your pictures: The groom is handsome (of course and what else…?) but the bride is just beautiful :-) !! For sure were all eyes mainly on her these days.

Nevertheless : you are a wonderful copule. And your wedding must have been a great event.
Thanks for showing ur tribe these pictures. Maybe you had one representive of us as a guest there :-)?

But let me say the most important about it once again: May your common life go on that colorful and happy as it started! All the very best!

    • Dilshan Jayasinha December 9, 2015 at 20:16 #

Thank you Julie, such a beautiful message I’m sure that my wife will be blushing when she reads it. And no, there were no representatives from the Tribe :) All you saw in the pics for close friends and family, haha.

I’ve just gotten started on this course to try and impress the girlfriend who moved from SL to England, and I can’t believe how easy it is (the learning, that is), and how generous you are! Have you considered creating a duolingo course too, maybe? Either way, congratulations, and I wish you all the best in your marriage! Happy holidays, and many happy returns!

Beautiful couple, wishing both of you for very happy and long life together!

  120. Jasmine October 30, 2019 at 12:11 #

Congrats. I wish you so many happy years to come. I couldnt but wonder does she speak Sinhala? I started watching your videos a year ago in my attempt to learn Sinhala and It did help me a bit but then I stopped. My Sri lankian husband, my work place which I quit recently, all speak English so It was impossible to develop the language. I really want to learn and have the motive but my busy day and furstration lead me to give up soon. I face difficulties with pronunciation. There is no online dictionary for proper pronunciation. I know a lot of vocabularies and can understand a bit when people talk. But I cant respond to them. I face mockey from others first few times I tried to speak it and this what put me down. I get get over v turn to w!!! And the long words. And I cant differenciate between kema and kewada? or something. Food and did u eat? I think. Too much *k* ruined it for me. Other reason is Im not planning to stay in Sri lanka in future so people dont encourage me to learn it but I wanna do it for my in laws. They dont speak English. I wanna interact with them. I want my kids in future to speak it and speak my native language.

    • Dilshan Jayasinha October 31, 2019 at 08:39 #
